The Warner Foundation was founded in 1996 by Michael Warner and Elizabeth Craven. The foundation's mission is to improve the quality of life for low wealth individuals and communities in North Carolina. In its first ten years the foundation has awarded grants totaling approximately $6,000,000 to over 160 nonprofit organizations in North Carolina.

The foundation does not consider unsolicited proposals. Instead, the Board of Directors, working from its own experience with nonprofits, and with the many organizations in North Carolina which are familiar with the work of nonprofits, designates grants to those nonprofits it feels best further the mission of the foundation.
